Stew Marsh

Stew Marsh first experience the thrill of skiing at age 13 at Labrador Mountain in New York. During his college years, he learned to race and ski jump. He was named captain of his ski team. He also began his ski teaching career at this time, working year-round at Labrador Mountain, eventually becoming Ski School Director in 1970.
Stew was certified by the Professional Ski Instructors of America-Eastern Division (PSIA-E) in 1971, and was Graduated Length Method (GLM) certified by Cliff Taylor. He moved to Utah in 1974 and began teaching skiing at Alta for the Alf Engen Ski School. He held this position for 30 years, developing many lifelong friendships.
Desiring to increase his involvement in PSIA-Intermountain, Stew became a clinic leader and examiner, and in 1979 was elected to the PSIA-I Board of Directors. During his 27-year tenure, on the board he served in many positions. As Communications VP, he created the EDGE newsletter to open lines of communication with the membership. As President, he revised the member database which is still in use today. After three years as President, he served six years as the Intermountain representative to PSIA. Before leaving the Board in 2005, Stew served as Intermountain President for an additional two years.
Shortly thereafter, Stew had the opportunity to fulfill a lifetime goal of becoming a ski school director and accepted the job of Snowsports Manager at Snowbasin. During his nine-year tenure, he developed and implemented the Learn & Earn program, recognized nationally as an innovative way to increase and retain the number skiers and boarders. Stew retired from Snowbasin in 2016, but continues to enjoy Master-level racing,as well as conducting clinics and exams in the Intermountain division.
Stew was awarded a National Lifetime Membership to PSIA and PSIA-I and in 2019 was inducted into the PSIA-I Ski Instructors Hall of Fame.
