M. Earl Miller, born in 1917, willingly shared his passion for skiing on two fronts – teaching the recreational skier to enjoy the sport and teaching racers to excel. His impressive credentials include serving as ski school director at Snowbasin Ski Area for 35 years and serving as the highly-successful coach of the Weber State College Ski Team from 1964 to 1975. In those positions he taught thousands the joy of skiing and he recruited, trained, and coached several notable college-level competitors.
His contributions to skiing extend well beyond the slopes. He was one of the founders of the Intermountain Ski Instructors Association, serving on its Board of Directors for many years and helping to draft its original certification procedures. He also served 30 years as an examiner in its certification program. Earl played a key role in drafting the Professional Ski Instructors of America (PSIA) American Ski Technique in 1961.
His dedication to skiing is mirrored in his numerous awards and honors, including being named the PSIA-Intermountain Ski School Director of the Year in 1973 and receiving Lifetime Membership status from that organization in 1978.
