Freestyle Skiing

Somersaulting stunts and other jumping tricks were popularized by Stein Eriksen during the 1950s.  Freestyle skiing flourished on the slopes in the 1970s as “hot dogging” skiers performed daring moves in various disciplines:  aerials, moguls, ski cross, half-pipe, and slopestyle.  Freestyle skiing focused on acrobatics and agility.  With growing popularity, mogul skiing debuted at the 1992 Winter Olympic Games, aerials at the 1994 Games, and ski cross, half-pipe, and slopestyle premiered in 2014.
