Picabo Street

Picabo Street (1971 –     )
When Picabo Street was born, her family lived on Victor Road in Triumph, Idaho. With such an address, it would seem her penchant for winning was predestined. Skiing since the age of five, Picabo’s first major win was the Junior Olympic downhill championship in Alyeska, Alaska–she was 14 years old.
During the 1990s Picabo became a fearless and flamboyant presence on the world’s premier ski racing circuit. Her all-out style earned her three World Championship medals (one gold), two Olympic medals (one gold) and nine World Cup wins. She also won World Cup downhill season titles in 1995 and 1996, making her the first North American skier to do so. Twice during her career (1996 and 2000) Picabo accomplished the near impossible by returning to racing after suffering debilitating injuries.
Her comeback performance in the 1998 Olympics resulted in a Super-G gold medal. Her final elite level race was the Downhill at the 2002 Games, where she finished in 16th place. She was inducted into the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association Hall of Fame in 2004.
Now retired, Picabo continues to inspire kids to follow their dreams through her “Street of Dreams Foundation” and the “Picabo Street Academy.”
