Come see the new 2018 Hometown Heroes exhibit!
For generations, Utah has proudly produced scores of elite winter athletes. In February 2018, the state’s reputation was again on display in South Korea where over twenty competitors took to ice and snow at the PyeongChang Olympic Winter Games. This exhibit recognizes all our local Olympians and highlights several as Hometown Heroes.
After winning a bronze medal at the 2014 Sochi Games, Keith Gabel returned to Olympic competition in 2018 and captured a silver medal in the snowboard cross event.
Sarah Hendrickson earned her spot on the 2018 U.S. Olympic ski jumping team at the Team Trials event held December 31, 2017 at Utah Olympic Park. This was her second Olympic appearance.
With a reputation as one of the hardest working alpine skiers on the circuit, Ted Ligety competed in his fourth Olympic Games in PyeongChang.
Halfpipe skier, Brita Sigourney, finished sixth at the 2014 Sochi Games, and then returned in 2018 to win a bronze medal in PyeongChang.
Although she retired from competition before the 2018 PyeongChang Games, Lindsey Van played a vital role in the effort to get women’s ski jumping approved as an Olympic event, thereby securing her reputation as a Hometown Hero.
